Understanding Nerve Treatments for Cavities

A cavity is formed when bacteria infect the structure of a tooth. If the cavity reaches the inner part of the tooth where the nerve and blood vessels are located, further treatment such as a "nerve treatment" may be necessary.
For pediatric teeth, “baby root canal” pulp treatment removes part of the infected nerve, and preserves the vitality of the tooth. Bio-compatible dental medication will be applied to the nerve space, and then a full-coverage crown will be placed to prevent bacteria from entering into the nerve space.

Will my child experience pain after the procedure?

Occasionally, a child may experience mild discomfort for a few days in rare cases. This discomfort can be relieved with over-the-counter pain medication and is expected to improve in the coming days.
